On May 11, the PERYCLES consortium is organizing a workshop on Digital Democracy and Inclusivity at the University of Bucharest, bringing together researchers and practitioners to explore how digital tools can both enhance and challenge democratic participation. The program features talks on liquid democracy, citizen expectations of digital platforms, public support for online citizens’ assemblies, avatarobots and the crisis of democracy, gamified deliberation, quantitative approaches to measuring digital inclusion, bottom-up innovations from the Global South, and the relationship between democratic legitimacy and digital inclusion.
A highlight of the event will be the Roundtable on Digital Democracy Tools: Opportunities and Challenges, opened online by Victor Negrescu, Vice-President of the European Parliament. The roundtable will feature contributions from Andreea-Iuliana Leonte (Member of the Bucharest General Council), Andreas Nitsche (Association for Interactive Democracy), Olivia Vereha (Code4Romania), and Ovidiu Voicu (Center for Public Innovation).
